At the bottom of our plot of land we have made a rubbish dump and a polluted pond. The area is meant to show the effects of not recycling and disposing properly of waste. I made the containers and then mike made the objects to go in the electrical recycling one. There is also floating text that gives you some information about recycling and waste disposal taken directly from the direct gov website, but this is not visible in the pictures.

Secondlife textures...
Throughout the project lots of textures have had to made. This was an area that i had not tried before but enjoyed it and found it fairly simple to do in the end. below are a couple of the textures that i made for the inside walls of the factory and the floor. The images were taken from Google and CG textures and i made them seamless in photoshop.

Secondlife scripting...
With good help from our tutor Anna we were able to get some nice srcipts into the build. On the exterior of the factory we made a chimney with smoke that as well as rising up also blows in the direction of the wind.
Inside the factory we have a bit of a masterpiece. I built this conveyor belt leading into the furnace and on the conveyor belt and scripted the texture to move horizontally to look like it was moving. Anna provided us with the script for the fire as well as the objects moving along the belt. The Green and purple boxes represent items of recyclable and non-recyclable objects. This is still under construction but hopefully in the end, the recyclable objects will be able to be removed from the belt then put onto the trolley before going into the recycling bins.

Secondlife continued..
Before you enter the factory you come across the lockers. When the lockers are touched a uniform is given out as a texture that can be worn. Modeled below by James with his pop gun.
Ultimately we wanted the person visiting the factory to have to wear the uniform in order to walk through the door but underestimated how long the building of the objects would take. Also at the entrance is the Direct Gov sign. This is scripted so that the whole sign is a link to the direct gov recycling web page.

Secondlife DirectGov Project
As a group we were asked to pick an area from a list of titles from the direct gov website. We decided to choose the recycling option. Below is the latest picture of the factory we have made. The factory itself is made up of lots of different objects and textures with certain areas containing script.

Another Video Game
Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X is another game that has amazing graphics on the PS3. The city scapes and terrains that have been modeled are really cool with good detail. I don't however like the planes in the gameplay as they look really flimsy and tacky unlike in the clips in the introduction where they look amazing.

CGI
This clip is awesome. although the models aren't the best there is a lot of action going on.. lots of movement and action happening really brings the models to life. especially like the part where you have the view from the cockpit of a fighter jet flying along, feels like your part of it.

Resistance2
Another new game for the PS3 that i have played on.
I really like the look of the abandoned city. Making the various objects like the buildings, cars , dead bodies etc. would be fun to make in a 3D program. Although the textures make the place come to life and have real feeling this is an area of work that i wouldn't be interested in.

CGI Promo
Found this while searching on Vimeo. Really like the way the whole structure keeps rotating whilst everything is happening. really crisp graphics and shapes. would be cool to do this type of thing for advertising.

The Watchmen
Yet another movie that i really like the CGI and effects that have been used. In this trailer i especially like the lightning, slow motion window break and when various objects/ vehicles rise up from the ground/sea. More of the type of work i would like to be involved in...

LordOfTheRings....
This video really sums up what I would like to go into at the end of my course. modeling and animating for films really appeals to me. I would prefer to do more realistic animations such as the horses in the video rather than say finding Nemo. I prefer the more real life look so it makes people actually wonder is it real? or isn't it? The video of the making of Narnia below also shows the jobs in brief too. I would really like to work as part of a team to produce something so good.

After Effects 2
I have watched a lot of the videos using after effects on the internet but they have all been tutorials as i have not been able to find sites with proper work on. here are a few clips from the tutorials that i like. once again the light streak is an effect that i really like. the raindrop video is nice and i like the perspective looking up to the sky as well as the smoke that comes off the text at the end but the video isn't of best quality and think the raindrops could be a lot better.

After Effects
Although I have not used after effects yet, i am really interested in learning how to use the software properly as some of the videos and tutorials i have watched have really grabbed my attention. this one isn't using the kind of effects that i am interested in but i really like the way that each word drops off the previous one whilst rotating around.
Killzone2
After buying killzone2 for the PS3, i was amazed at how good the graphics and modeling was. The people looked so realistic in the opening scenes and the guns, uniforms, buildings and scenery are so crisp and detailed. I really like the futuristic feel and the general look that the game has.

GameDesign
I found these pictures whilst looking for a new game to buy on the PS3. I really like the modern/futuristic look as well as the complex design and detail. The textures and colors really make the weapons stand out too with a really crisp and sharp finish. Designing game assets is also another area that would be interesting and fun to do.

Egg and Spoon
For the second stage of animation I have chosen to focus the short animation around an Egg and Spoon that interact with each other. This is my first time using Maya and am really enjoying it as its an area that i would like to work in later in life. Here are the designs for the Egg and Spoon. They could be modified slightly but this is most likely what will be used in the animation...

Introduction to SecondLife
At college I am currently completing a module called Virtual Environments which is based around SecondLife. Here are a few snapshots of 'stuff' that i have created for the first time.
This first image is of a couple of textures i made in photoshop. The idea was to keep them simple but get rid of any visible merging lines so that the texture could be spread over any size of area. not too bad for a first attempt.
This was a simple flag. It showed me how to link objects together as well as give them attributes so that it can flow with the wind, bends etc..
Another texture that i made was this window frame, this was a little different to the other textures as part of it had been made alpha so that when put onto a surface, parts of the texture were see-through...

Smirnoff Advert
I know a lot of my posts are about advertising on television but this is an area off advertising that i would really enjoy to work in. I think this advert is fantastic because of the shear amount of modeling that has had to be completed and the ship and plane look amazing. the way all the objects fly out of the water and fall to the land/ground is really believable with all the effects used like the water falling from the plane as it is raised out of the water and the sand trails when objects emerge from the sea bed. really nice ad!...

More idents....
These are some more idents that are currently on Sky. My favourite idents are the ones for Sky 1. I really like the crisp sharp edges of the shape and how they fit together to make the big 1. I also like how the pieces dont just slot into place but they also continue to merge and fill in the cracks to give a really cldean and solid shape. The 'explosion' on the sky 2 ident when the liquid hits the box is quite cool too. The liquid doesnt just hit and fall under normal gravity but kind of swirls up and round as well as down. really like this effect.

Buildings
Saw this picture on my dads desk of the Leeds Innovation Centre. Its always great to see what a building could look like before its built. I would enjoy building the architects design and making the textures etc in a 3D program. to give a really good idea of how it will look....
Poor picture as taken on my phone.

Channel 4 Idents
I really like these short clips that come inbetween adverts and before programmes on channel 4. A few are shown below but there are loads of them. Like the way that they eventually slide and for a split second show the '4'.
i guess theyve been done on a 3D program? maybe im wrong????

3D Design
Here is another different side of 3D that i also like. after spending time at an architects on work experience at school i saw plenty of still 3D building design but being able to view the design from all different angles and flythroughs etc.. is really cool. especially on a large scale like a city. some examples are below.
Shame i cant understand it :/

Fiesta ad.
This is an advert that's been on TV for a little while now but is one that catches my attention and i always watch it through. I particularly like how the TV's move and stack/slide etc through the city and when the car splits the TVs and appears i really like. Great vibrant colors on a dark background.
It is quite similar to Lichtfaktor with the whole traveling through a city at night etc. but this is just done with lights instead of digital images. This is something else that is really appealing and i admire. an example below:
